Zeitstück

Husserl‘s exploration of time consciousness draws upon the ana- logy of hearing a melody, wherein the succession of notes unfolds sequentially rather than simultaneously. Each note emerges one after the other, or in the case of sustained notes, our awareness is confined to segments of their duration. Consequently, while one note is perceived, the others have either already elapsed or are anticipated. Time objects, according to Husserl, not only serve as temporal markers but also encapsulate the temporal continuum within them.

In the artwork titled Zeitstück, this concept is manipulated by altering the conventional resonating bodies of wind instruments. Instead, I substitute them with an organic, enclosed air space that entraps the sound within itself. This material transformation imbues the work with a dynamic quality, as it interacts with exter- nal factors such as light and heat, thereby ensuring that its appea- rance remains in a state of flux for the viewer.
